About the Item

A French Bronze Figure of Atlanta, 19th Century Provenance: Private Australian Collection. Description: Set on an octagonal rouge marble base, the Greek heroine, associated with hunting, racing, archery, and Artemis is represented running, taken from the myth of her race against her suitor Hippomenes. The statue is based on a fragmentary ancient marble restored in the 16th century and a marble by Pierre Lepautre of 1704, both in the Louvre. Smaller gilt-bronze versions of both the figure and group were made for the royal collections, however surviving examples are rare. Dimensions: Height: 46cm Width: 20cm. Depth: 27cm.
