About the Item

A curious assortment of vintage busts in bronze and alabaster. The largest bust, cast in bronze, depicts the 19th century politician Odilon-Barrot who led the council of ministers under Louis Philippe. An inscription on the back indicates this was presented to Coulon Architects in 1839 by Mrs. Odilon-Barrot. Another bust in bronze–with copper finish–is signed “Evaulx”, and honors a distinguished general in his military uniform. The third bust, carved from alabaster and signed “Petri” (likely the artist Otto Petri) uses the warmth of the creamy white stone to capture the youthful innocence of the boy subject. Alphanumeric markings are also carved into the base of the alabaster, with unknown significance. Please note that the boy’s neck shows a faint line from being glued back on after a previous injury.
