Offered for sale is a French white metal (spelter) sculpture of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, strategic warfare and crafts. Minerva is often associated with the Greek goddess Athena. It depicts Minerva seated, wearing a helmet and armor, and holding a shield. Similar statues were popular in the 19th century, often used as decorative mantelpiece items. The statue may is inspired inspired by classical Roman art. The style and details suggest the it might be from the late 19th or early 20th century.
