"A Frolic at the Old Homestead" – Large Painted Plaster Group
A large painted plaster figural group titled "A Frolic at the Old Homestead", after the 1881 original by the American sculptor John Rogers (1829–1904). The group depicts four figures in a lively domestic scene and bears the impressed mark:
JOHN ROGERS / NEW YORK / 1881
This is a genuine period cast, likely produced around 1890, consistent with the modelling quality and surface character seen in original examples from Rogers' workshop or shortly thereafter. The work is well preserved and retains its original painted surface with age-related wear to high points, including the head and blindfold of the standing figure. The base has later green baize added for protection.
Condition:
Good overall condition with light wear and minor surface marks commensurate with age. No structural damage observed.
