About the Item

Set of 2 extraordinary Italian masks by Satyr. Carved entirely from marble. Original from Italy, 19th century. A Satyr is a mythical creature from Greek mythology, known as a follower of the wine god Dionysus. Satyrs are half man, half goat, with pointed ears, buck's legs, a tail and sometimes horns. They symbolize nature, lust, music and celebration. They are often depicted as playful, licentious figures who dance, play flutes and chase pleasure. In Roman mythology, they resemble fauns. They embody instinct, seduction and the wild side of man. These can be hung on wall, or we can have a stand made. In good condition, both have the left horn broken off.
