About the Item
"Noe Kuremoto is a ceramic artist who makes everything by hand using simple tools. She’s known for playful sculptural work that takes the form of ancient Japanese clay figurine. Her pieces mix child-like simplicity with contemporary sophistication, and incorporate her background in Fine Art and design with her cultural heritage. She shares the traditional Japanese view that sprits are everywhere, especially in nature – for Noe the truth of our universe can be found in wilderness. Her signature piece is her interpretation of ancient talisman – ‘Haniwa’ ‘Dogu’ ‘Toro’, which invites the sprit of nature into people’s homes in the simplest form possible. It’s representative of her desire to make a deeper connection in a world that can often feel shallow. “These sculpture come from my deep ocean of childhood memories, I hope every piece I make helps my sons to see the world as a beautiful place. My artwork is my journey to strengthen my soul. I would like to share them with you. A talisman to have the courage to live our life as truthfully as we can.”
Her ceramics are like a beautiful dream that her hands, fire and clay turn into reality. Kuremoto was born in Osaka Japan, and graduated in Fine Art with First Class Honours from Central Saint Martins College of Art. She works and lives in London with her family, including sausage dog Lassie. She is currently building her EU studio in the lake district of Lithuania in the middle of forest."
