About the Item

Herkimer diamonds in matrix mounted on an 18th century Italianhand-carved and gilded distressed molding and adorned with baroque pearls. "Herkimer diamonds" are unique and classic diamond-like minerals. It is the name given to the doubly terminated quartz crystals found in Herkimer County, New York and surrounding areas. Doubly terminated crystals are incredibly rare. This is what makes the "Herkimer diamond" an amazing specimen. The molding has been preserved from a historic church in Italy and collected by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and joined it with the wood base and the period shows that the molding artifact is originally 18th century. The piece has been joined together with the herkimer diamonds in matrix - creating an organic and historical sculptural piece to grace any space.
