About the Item

An impressive and high quality Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. Grand Tour Period patinated Bronze and marble statue of Hermes. This handsome depiction of a youthful and athletic Hermes is raised by a cylindrical marble base with a mottled plinth. Hermes is the Greek god of communication, travel and commerce, and he is displayed with a relaxed contrapposto pose emphasizing the idealized proportions and smooth musculature though his naturalistic body, while covered by a fig leaf. Wonderful and rich patination throughout.
