About the Item

A very elegant Italian mid 19th century Neo-Classical st. white Carrara marble signed statue of Hebe, modeled after the original by Antonio Canova. Hebe stands on an oval shaped grotto base, dressed in classical drape tied at her waist. Both her hands are extended seemingly dancing. Wonderful movement throughout including the hands and billowing dress. Condition consistent with having been exposed to the exterior elements. The statue is signed Vincenzo, from the town of Carrara, Italy. Hebe was the daughter of Zeus and Hera and was the embodiment of youth. The original sculpture was formerly from the collection of Josephine de Beauharnais in the castle of Malmaison and now in The Hermitage museum.
