Italian Terracotta Bust of John the Baptist, ca 1900
An Italian terracotta bust, glazed. The bust depicts the young John the Baptist. This bust is glazed white with light blue glazed clothing and stands on a red velvet pedestal. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Florence and considered an example of self-control and humility. The bust is unmarked. It is approximately circa 1900.
The base measures 5 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 17 cm deep (the velvet is worn).
The bust is 26 cm high (including the base, 31 cm), 24 cm wide, and 14 cm deep.
