About the Item
A cast bronze wall sculpture by Mexican artist José Sacal named "Tongo". It features a tribute portrait to Mexican - American exotic dancer from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema Yolanda Montes "Tongolele" (1932 - 2025). The high relief plaque is signed and dated 01 on the lower right. "Tongo" belong to a series of tiles the artist designed in the early 2000's; a black ceramic version can be found on Sacal's website as of July 2025.
José Sacal (1944 - 2019) was a Mexican sculptor and ceramist from Cuernavaca, México. He first studied arts at the Cuernavaca school of the Fine Arts National Institute. He moved to Mexico City at age 15 and studied at the National Painting, Sculpture and Engraving School "La Esmeralda". Sacal is mostly known by his monumental public sculpture
