About the Item

Bronze with a brown patina of a Cossack on horseback, embracing a woman: The Cossack's Farewell. The signature "Lanceray" in Cyrillic is found on the base. Eugène Lanceray was a Russian sculptor of French origin (his grandfather, Paul Lanceray, a major in Napoleon I's army, remained in Russia), renowned for his animal sculptures, particularly those of horses and their relationship with humans. He was a major Russian sculptor who produced numerous works during his short career, always with a striking realism. This model was created around 1878. His works are now exhibited in various galleries and museums in Russia; Lanceray exhibited twice in Paris. His bronzes were produced by Félix Chopin in Saint Petersburg, then in France by Susse. Slight wear to the patina. Height 40cm, 33.5 x 16cm, 11.150kg.
