About the Item

Guiraud-Rivière 1881-1947 A tall, exquisite, original French Art Deco sculpture in silvered bronze with parcel gilt accents. This largest rendition of the sculpture is truly a rarity to behold, while the smaller size of 10- 12" ht is a model much more commonly encountered. Sometimes referred to by the name of Stella, this extraordinary work bears the signature on the base of the bronze, of the renowned artist Maurice Guiraud-Rivière and the famed founder, Etling Paris. Impressive and captivating, this statue portrays a graceful female nude dancer captured in an active pose standing on one foot atop a star. Adorned with an ankle bracelet, turban, and earrings, the figure emanates elegance. Her outstretched arm holds an onyx ball, adding a touch of a contrasting medium to the composition. Standing proudly on a star-shaped base, the sculpture culminates in a sub plinth made of verde green and white marble. ---------------- Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, a French painter, designer and sculptor born in 1881 in Toulouse and passing in 1947, studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris under the guidance of Antonin Mercié. In 1907, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes Français. With a strong inclination towards Art Deco, he gained recognition for his sculptures focusing on themes like women, sports, aviation, and automobiles, crafted in bronze or chryselephantine. Notably, he had a passion for automobiles and created mascots between 1919 and 1930, produced by the Etling house. He also produced advertising posters, watercolors and humorous drawings. His work is emblematic of the Art Deco era, marked by its distinctive style and influence. While Maurice Guiraud-Rivière explored various artistic disciplines during his career, including sculpture, drawing, and painting, it is his "Art Deco" inspired sculptures that remain the most coveted and sought-after pieces of his body of work. ---------------------------------- Biblio : Art Deco sculpture, Victor Arwas, academy editionspgs 108- 109 Art Deco and other figures, Brian Catley, 2.edition, Woodbridge 2003, p. 185 Bronzes, sculptors and founders by H.
