About the Item
Large Italian Neoclassical style bronze bearded figure of a Centaur on a marble base. This is a magnificent sculpture of a Centaur a good size 37" x 28" and I believe from early 20th century. It is signed by the artist Giorgio Rossi (1892-1963) also a second signature maybe of the foundry. A Centaur is a mythical creature derived from the Greek mythology, which is half man, half horse. In Greek myth centaurs inhabited the wild forest and mountains of Thessaly, beyond the land of humankind. The bronze Centaur sits on the marble base 11" x 24" x 2.5" and is not attached. It is in good condition but is missing the bottom half of the bow shown in the photos still looks great.
