About the Item

Impressive pair of large Chinese Carved and Polychromed Figurines that depict an elegant Emperor and Emperess in refined idealization and ceremonial presence. Each figure stands gracefully, dressed in elaborate robes adorned with auspicious motifs and flowing patterns. Each tenderly holds a richly painted bird with lovely plumage which were signs of harmony, prosperity, and good fortune in Chinese culture. The faces of the figures are carved with serene expressions and elongated features characteristic of late Qing aesthetics, while the garments display deep, layered polychrome with scrolling designs, floral elements, and symbolic ornamentation. Measurements above are for female figure, male figure measures 16.25"H x 2.75"W x 2"D. In today's interior's, this pair functions as striking sculptural accents. They are ideal for flanking a console, mantel, or entryway, or displayed together on pedestals for maximum visual impact.
