Large Gilded Carved Wood Laughing Buddha Sculpture on Lotus Base Origin: Late 20th Century Materials: Hand-carved wood, gold leaf Dimensions: H 109 cm x W 57 cm x D 43 cm Condition: Fine decorative order. Some marks to the gilt in alignment with age. and some non minor age-related splitting to the wood. Solid and stable. A bold and joyful carved wood figure of Budai, the Laughing Buddha, presented in a radiant gold leaf finish. Depicted standing on a stylised lotus base, he holds a staff and sack over one shoulder and a wealth ball in the other hand, with a string of prayer beads across his chest. A traditional symbol of contentment, good fortune, and abundance, this figure is rendered with warmth and charisma. Striking in both scale and presence, this sculpture makes an uplifting decorative statement suited to interiors, spiritual spaces, or collectors of symbolic sculpture.
