About the Item

Large Modern Figural Ceramic Sculpture with Ribbed Columnar Form, Signed (Illegible), 35 Inches Tall Monumental modern ceramic sculpture depicting a stylized female torso emerging from a vertically ribbed, columnar base. The work is executed in terracotta or earthenware and finished with a matte green glaze, accented by darker incised linear detailing that articulates the contours of the figure and emphasizes the rhythmic, architectural structure of the form. The lower section is composed of stacked horizontal registers of protruding ribbed elements, creating a strong sense of verticality and surface texture. The upper portion presents an abstracted figural bust with simplified anatomical modeling, integrating organic and architectural motifs characteristic of late 20th-century studio ceramics and postmodern figural sculpture. The underside bears a hand-applied signature in black, which is present but not legible. The base shows typical kiln and firing marks consistent with handmade studio work. Minor surface wear, glaze variation, and small areas of loss are visible and consistent with age, material, and sculptural handling. This piece is conceived as a sculptural object rather than a functional vessel and is well suited for display as a statement work in a contemporary or modern interior.
