About the Item
A rare and museum-level early work by internationally acclaimed Polish sculptor Karol Broniatowski.
Created in 1972, this life-size Running Figure is executed in the artist’s signature papier-mâché, a medium through which he explored vulnerability, movement, and the human condition during the most defining years of his practice.
The sculpture captures a dynamic, forward-driven gesture: the body leaning into motion, limbs elongated, and surfaces layered with raw, tactile texture. The subtle fragments of printed paper still visible throughout are characteristic of Broniatowski’s most important period, now widely represented in European museums and institutional collections.
This is not just a sculpture, but a museum-grade artefact from the foundational decade of his career, exceptionally rare on the market in this monumental format.
About the Artist
Karol Broniatowski (b. 1945) is a Polish sculptor best known for his monumental public works and expressive figurative silhouettes. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he gained international attention for his paper and bronze figures exploring movement and human presence. His works are held in major museums including the Centre Pompidou, Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, and several Polish national collections.
Early large-scale papier-mâché works such as this one are considered among his most historically significant.
