Life-size sculpture of Saint Francis of Assisi, Spanish Baroque school, 17th century Large-format sculpture in carved, gilded, and polychromed wood, depicting Saint Francis of Assisi standing, wearing a Franciscan habit richly decorated with gold leaf against a dark background. The figure's face is raised, displaying a mystical expression and profound spirituality, characteristic of Castilian and Andalusian Baroque sculpture. The face and beard are meticulously crafted, while the hands (now lost) would originally have been open in an attitude of contemplation and prayer. Its life-size size (approximately 1.40–1.60 m) gives it a commanding presence, which, combined with the gilded decoration, makes it a piece of significant devotional and collector's item.
