About the Item

Statuette depicting the Love Putto in Meissen porcelain, made in 1800. The figurine may have undergone restoration. Ø cm 10 Ø cm 6 h cm 13 Meissen porcelain is considered one of the earliest and finest examples of European porcelain. Originating in 1710 in Meissen, Germany, this porcelain has gained an international reputation over the centuries for its quality, refined decoration and craftsmanship. The history of Meissen porcelain is closely linked to the figure of Johann Friedrich Böttger, an alchemist and ceramist who, after years of research, succeeded in developing a formula to create a translucent white porcelain, similar to Chinese porcelain, but produced in Europe. The Meissen manufactory quickly became famous throughout Europe, and its creations were admired and collected by royal courts and aristocratic families. Meissen porcelain is characterized by a fine, translucent paste, achieved through a mixture of fine raw materials and a particularly long and complex firing process. Decorations are handcrafted by skilled artisans and are often inspired by nature, mythology, and history. Some of the most famous motifs include flowers, birds, landscapes and human figures. The Meissen trademark, known as "two crossed swords," is one of the oldest trademarks in the world and is a symbol of authenticity and quality.
