About the Item

Finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a separately cast double lotus throne with beaded edges, joined in union (yab yum) with his consort Shakti whose legs wrap gently behind, the deity’s principal arms held in anjali mudra with a jewel in the middle, the secondary arms positioned to the side and held in karana mudra, a vajra in the right hand, Shakti holding aloft a kartika and kapala. The two figures are clad in diaphanous dhotis and richly adorned with jewelry and a tiara inlaid with colored beads. The consort separately cast in two parts. (2) Provenance: The Kienzle Family Collection, Stuttgart, Germany. Acquired between 1950 and 1985 by siblings Else (1912-2006), Reinhold (1917-2008), and Dr. Horst Kienzle (1924-2019), during their extensive travels in Asia.
