In this striking work, Michel Froment reinterprets the mythological figure of Mars, god of war, with rare evocative power. The artist combines an 18th-century marble bust, whose face conveys remarkable grace and expressiveness, with a rust-patinated steel structure adorned with symbolic elements — a chain, a spear, and a horseshoe — each a warrior attribute reimagined through a contemporary, raw aesthetic.
The crackled patina of the marble and the meticulous sculptural details heighten the work’s dramatic tension. Froment orchestrates a masterful dialogue between the nobility of ancient material and the roughness of industrial metal, creating a work deeply rooted in the 21st century, yet imbued with the memory of the past.
With this piece, the artist extends the reflection begun with his Revisited Caryatid, where he also unites antique stone and patinated steel.
