About the Item

Giuseppe Grandi Marshal Ney Bronze Sculpture circa 1930. Patinated cast bronze sculpture depicting Napoleonic Marshal Ney. Of Italian manufacture, this is a multiple, of good execution and patination, datable to the 1930s and bears inscription on the front of the bases NEY . The 1874 original, which inspired several foundries, is preserved at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan; the original work is by sculptor Giuseppe Grandi (1843-1894), one of the leading exponents of Lombard Scapigliatura. Marshal Ney is standing, dressed in uniform and holding his saber at his left hip. He wears a long coat with military epaulets. On his head then he wears a felucca. In addition, the general seems to rest pensively. His pose, in fact, does not express his untamable character. Rather, he seems reflective and caught in an intimate moment. The sculpture has some casting burrs but is in overall good condition. The subject is one of the best known of Giuseppe Grandi's sculptural output thanks to the fortune it has garnered in the numerous, mostly posthumous fusions in various collections-including the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Shipping must be done within a wooden crate. This sculpture is shipped from Italy, any object over fifty years old requires a government export license called Belle Arti, issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The request and issuance of this document takes 1/2 week, additional to the shipping time.
