Friedrich Richard Roland Paris (March 18, 1894 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary - May 4, 1945 in Swinemünde, Germany) was a German caricaturist, writer of satirical verse, graphic designer, painter and Art Deco sculptor.
Roland Paris attended the Grand-Ducal Realgymnasium in Weimar from 1905. From 1909, he was a student at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Applied Arts in Weimar. Here, in 1912, he received second and third prizes as well as 25 points in a competition for the design of emblems for student associations, which he continued to produce for two or three years. Some of these works showed the influence of Art Nouveau, others included more modern approaches. In 1912, Paris took a course in sculpture at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Art in Weimar with the sculptor Gottlieb Elster. He then went to Munich, where he completed internships with several sculptors. In 1913, he returned to the school of Fine arts in Weimar and studied painting with Walther Klemm.
In June 1915 he received his call up order for the Eastern Front of World War I and served first in a commando unit and then in the Air Force Inspectorate (IdFlieg) . After his return in 1919, he settled in Berlin. In 1924 he married Elisabeth Lisl Austen (b. 1897), a dancer at the Théâtre des Westens who modeled most of his female characters; he depicted himself for the facial parts of his male characters. The marriage remained childless. Their shared one-bedroom apartment in the backyard of Xantener Strasse 11 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf was also the Paris Studio, where he designed and made many of his sculptures, as well as graphics and paintings...

This model is recorded as the first sculpture exhibited by Pasquale Romanelli, it met with such success that it was subsequently given a prize at the New York Exhibition of 1854 and also at the 1861 first Great Italian exhibition which followed the Unification of Italy in 1860. The statue was bought by Italian king S.M. Vittorio Emanuele II.

Pasquale Romanelli was born in Florence on May 28 1812. When he was 15 years old he entered the studio runned by Master Sculptor Luigi Pampaloni and later moved to Lorenzo Bartolini’s studio in Borgo San Frediano. Lorenzo Bartolini was a teacher at Accademia in 1837 and suggested the young pupil to attend proper sculpture training at the Accademia of Belle Arti. Soon he learned to sculpt in marble at such a high level that Bartolini himself did not need to finish his pieces if they have been carved by Pasquale.
In 1840 he got his studio at the San Barnaba Monastry (nearby San Lorenzo church) and in this years he already took part in the political life, sure enough his subjects were connected to his political IDEA of freedom and independence of Italy. In 1850 Lorenzo Bartolini died his heirs had to deal with several sculptures uncompleted and sort out how to finish them without distorting either the original project and the Master’s style. As Bartolini was very jealous of his “last touch”, the heirs chose Pasquale Romanelli to complete most of his works, as he was the only assistant that could match the ability of the master. Just to mention some of this works, according to the tradition, the famous sculpture ”La fiducia in Dio” now housed at Hermitage Museum was sculpted by Pasquale Romanelli from an original model by Bartolini, as well as the “Monumento Demidoff” placed in Piazza Demidoff in Florence. Till the end of his life he worked on several commissions, either public monuments as the sculpture Francesco Ferrucci (Portico degli Uffizi) and private ones, mostly sold abroad. Cerberus figure seated, in his role of ferocious guardian of the underworld; he shows a nervous musculature, an adherent skin which reveals the ribs, long and robust limbs; his heads are broad and the eyes set well apart.
Painted in black to amplify his menacing look, the infernal guardian is depicted with his famous attributes, writhing his heads, growling and barking furiously.
Cerberus, in Greek mythology, was the monstrous watchdog of the underworld – also known as the “hound of Hades” – preventing the dead from leaving, and making sure that those who entered never left.
A child of Typhon and Echidna, he was part of a monstrous family, which included Orthus, the Lernaean Hydra, and the Chimaera as well. Only on three occasions Cerberus was tricked by visitors of Hades: Heracles did it with his strength, Orpheus with his music.
In "The Inferno", Dante places Cerberus as the guardian of the third circle of Hell. With his three mouths, Dante saw Cerberus as a beast that was synonymous with the sin of Gluttony. Virgil gets past the monster by throwing mud in his three mouths, temporarily choking him.
