About the Item

In an exclusive collaboration with pagoda red, Chicago artist the bms. adds a contemporary twist to our collection of one-of-a-kind African art objects. Guided by its geometric line work, the bms. uses silver and gold thumbtacks to accentuate the sculptural form of this African figure attributed to the Bambara people of Mali. Originally created for a Western export market, this decorative figure now blends the imaginative forms of tribal art with the bold layering of maximalist aesthetics. Marked by the artist's golden touch, the studded sculpture catches the light beautifully from every angle.
