About the Item
A Trompe L'œil treasure by Michael Harvey, a Canadian designer whose 1970s ceramics that replicate paper bags and cardboard have become iconic.
This excellent condition "paper bag" sculpture or vase is not only stamped with Mr. Harvey's stamp, but retains the circular sticker label to the base, indicating Canadian production.
A true piece of Pop Art, yet a functional one when filled with dried florals or branches. Its sharply modeled folds, subtle surface texture, and convincing paper-like creases highlight Harvey’s skill in transforming ordinary objects into clever visual illusions. The piece has a warm, natural tone that enhances its sculptural presence, making it a standout accent in contemporary, mid-century, or eclectic interiors. Whether displayed on a shelf, console, or tabletop, it invites a second look, offering both charm and craftsmanship. A wonderful addition to collectors of Harvey's designs.
