This 21st century hand-carved stone portrait bust is expertly hewn from a striped gray and tan stone. The artist expertly and intentionally utilized the natural veining of the stone to form the eyes, enhancing the figure's enigmatic expression. With its wide flat face and stylized nose and mouth, the piece echoes the minimalistic beauty of ancient Cycladic figures. Cycladic art, originating from the Cycladic islands in the Aegean Sea around 3000-2000 BCE, is renowned for its abstract and geometric simplicity.
