About the Item
One of the most exquisitely beautiful bronzes sculptures we have ever offered, this extremely rare bronze centerpiece features a mother with her child standing on her shoulder, each figure beautifully modeled and executed. The sculpture is flanked by a set of four candleholders, and the entire piece maintains its original, ruddy-brown patina. The sculptor, Emory Seidel, is best known for his nude figures that serve as three-dimensional bas reliefs, with modeling that brings out every muscle and curve of the human physique. He was known to be partial to sculpting children, once quoted as saying that ""In childhood the lines of the face are unfixed. The expressions are more subtle, the curves run one into the other. With age come the definitely developed facial planes. The adult seldom assumes an absolutely natural expression when sitting for a portrait."
