This murano art glass sculpture was hand made using the sommerso technique on the Venetian island of Murano by artist Alfredo Barbini. Genuine 24k gold aventurine is encased within the glass creating a mesmerizing and etheral golden glow. On top of the gold flecks are thousands of controlled bubbles adding depth and light refraction to truly make this murano glass fish sculpture one of a kind. Murano glass made with a traditional Venetian technique called aventurine involves infusing the glass with 24k gold dust or gold leaf to create shimmering, sparkling particles. Alfredo Barbini
Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.
