About the Item
Beautiful vintage set of Murano hand blown blue green iridescent and gold flecks Italian art glass apple and banana figures / sculptures. The pieces are documented to designer Alfredo Barbini, circa 1950-1960s. I have owned several of them before with the original labels (this ones are without), and similars are published in the Barbini catalogs. The apple sculpture has a clear and gold leaf stem with leaf attached to it. The iridescence on both create a rainbow of colors as the light hits them just right. Please see the close up photos. The set would make a great display on any dresser, coffee table or curio cabinet. You will be able to showcase them as decorative pieces in any room. They can be used as a paperweights or put them inside a bowl to create a centerpiece. Mid-century era. Measurements: The Apple measures 4 1/4" long x 4” wide x 3 5/8” tall. The Banana measures 7” long x 2 1/2” tall x 1 3/4” wide.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. The tip of the leaf feels a little sharp to the touch. The 2nd to last photo shows the pontil mark on the banana. Since it does not have a bottom like the other piece, the pontil mark is at the tip. Last photo shows a rust color spot on the apple.

Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.
