About the Item

Our Lady of the Rosary with Child, polychrome wood carving, 18th century This 18th-century Baroque sculpture depicts Our Lady of the Rosary with the Child. Carved in wood and polychromed in gold and red tones, it shows the Virgin crowned, with a metallic halo and holding a scepter, while she holds the Child in her left arm. At her feet, three cherub heads complete the composition, a characteristic motif of Baroque iconography. Although the original rosary is no longer extant, the devotion is clearly recognizable by the figure's pose and attributes. A piece of strong devotional character and of great interest to collectors of sacred art. 34 cm high, 47 cm base and crown, 13 cm wide

This is an outstanding Italian 18th century carved wood polychromed sculpture of Virgin Mary. The Sculpture is hand painted with some remains of a gold gilt in few places and originated until lately in a private Villa in Tuscany (Italy). The colors are typical red, blue and green are spectacular on this large figure.
