About the Item
Antique Charles Masse Bronze Fencing Figures.
A wonderful pair of French fencing figures, Rene Charles Masse (1855-1913). These are not the larger sized figures made of spelter, but smaller, and made of bronze. It is very difficult to find fencing statues, let alone of this quality and exceptional detail. The two gentlemen are made from bronze with a lovely pantina. Both figures are impressively cast with great detail and mounted onto circular plinths, unsigned, but attributed to René-Charles Masse. Both moustached gentlemen are wearing open collared shirts, one holding a duelling epee across his body with his left hand on hip, the other is flexing his duelling épée. The tips of the épées have been repaired.
