About the Item
A pair of exquisite antique Italian Neoclassical alabaster figures, each presented on square plinth bases. Both figures are sculpted in full round, standing atop circular socles that rest on stepped and molded pedestals with paneled sides. The alabaster displays a consistent pale tone with natural veining, giving the surface a subtle variation in color. The figures are depicted in classical attire, with one partially draped and the other clothed in a long, belted garment. Drapery folds are carefully defined, emphasizing vertical flow across the forms.
One figure is shown in a modest pose, her arms crossed across her chest and her head turned to the side. She is partially draped, with fabric gathered around her lower body and secured at her hip, leaving the upper torso largely uncovered. Her hair is styled and tied back, with carved detail at the crown. The second figure holds a shallow bowl in her extended right hand while grasping a handled vessel in her left, suggesting a role associated with libation or ritual. Her drapery falls over one shoulder and descends in long folds, covering her legs entirely. Both figures stand barefoot, their feet firmly placed on the integral circular bases.
The alabaster pedestals beneath each figure are of stepped architectural form, with square plinths and molded edges. Their surfaces display light tonal variations characteristic of alabaster, complementing the figures above. These sculptures follow the Neoclassical tradition in both pose and dress, reflecting the influence of antique statuary as interpreted in Italian workshops.
