About the Item

This charming pair of pearlware porcelain figures was made around the time of the Battle of Waterloo. And as such, they’ve had a few scrapes with life. But they evoke the charm of country life, of youth and pride of craftsmanship. The word "Walton" impressed in a ribbon on the base of the boy figurine is the maker's mark for the pottery. It identifies the pair as having been produced by the John Walton pottery factory, which operated in the Staffordshire Potteries region of England from approximately 1806 until the late 1830s. The firm was known for high quality overall expressed in good modeling, glazing and enameling, As an extra distinguishing mark, Walton’s figures often feature a "bocage" (a decorative element of foliage) as we have here. Maker’s Mark: In the rear of the boy figure’s base
