About the Item
A most elegant and high quality true pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze, ormolu and Sienna marble statues. Each beautiful statue is raised by a circular Sienna marble base with a fine mottled border. The lovely richly chased statues above stand on a rock like design with delicate ormolu flowers. Each richly chased cherub is draped in a fine flowing ormolu ribbon. One is standing in a pensive pose while the other is playing with a bird at his him. Lovely subject matter and rich warm patina throughout.

Valentino Panciera Besarel
Valentino Panciera Besarel was born in Val Zoldana, Italy. Growing up in poverty despite his father's and grandfather’s recognized work, Besarel was unable to have a regular education. Training and working at his father's workshop was only after Giuseppe Segusini saw him at work that he was able to attend the Venice Academy. He moved to Venice in the 60s and set up a workshop and despite having lost four of his fingers, received great honors and European so much so that he became the official supplier of the major continental monarchies.
