About the Item

Evocative pair of wooden sculptures depicting angels in flight, carved in the round and covered in fine gold leaf gilding. The figures, with strong expressiveness and movement, are depicted with one arm raised, probably to hold an element that is missing today-likely a crown or other symbolic attribute, as was often the case in complex high reliefs or on altars dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The two works measure respectively: Angel 1: height 103 cm (hand to foot), width about 36 cm, depth 23 cm Angel 2: height 98 cm, width about 34 cm, depth 21 cm The sculptures show obvious signs of time and evidence of ancient interventions: missing parts (such as a replaced wing), visible additions (remapping of some fingers), and later applications of purple, particularly on hands and feet. The color of the bolus (light orange tending to yellow) suggests a Veneto origin. The quality of the gilding and the elegance of the forms confirm the high workmanship of the works, despite their conservative condition. The angels can be restored or left in their current state, enhancing their historical patina according to the collector's taste. International shipping available.
