About the Item

An exceptional and exceedingly rare Art Deco bronze sculpture titled “Lysis”, designed by Pierre Le Faguays under his well-known pseudonym Fayral, and cast by the Max Le Verrier foundry in Paris circa 1930. This dynamic figure exemplifies the elegance and movement characteristic of Le Faguays’ oeuvre, rendered in bronserad metal with a superb dark green patina enriched by subtle brown and gold accents. The dancer’s poised, forward-stepping stance and stylized feathered skirt evoke the grace and modernity of the interwar period, while the elongated limbs and stylized coiffure reflect the geometric refinement of the Art Deco aesthetic. The sculpture bears the incised signature Fayral on the plinth and retains the earlier circular “Le Verrier – Made in France – Paris” foundry seal, attesting to its authenticity and early production. Mounted on a stepped black marble base, original to the piece. This particular version of “Lysis” was produced in notably fewer copies than other models from the Le Verrier atelier, making it one of the rarest iterations of Fayral’s work. It represents one of the final variants of this model to appear on the market, and is highly sought after by collectors of Art Deco sculpture. - Condition: Excellent original condition with rich patina and crisp detailing. A museum-worthy example of French Art Deco sculpture, “Lysis” stands as a testament to Fayral’s mastery of expressive form and the enduring legacy of the Max Le Verrier foundry. This model is illustrated in: Art Deco sculpture by Victor Arwas, Academy. pag. 85 Art Deco and other figures by Brian Catley, Antique collectors club. The Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts 1890-1940 by Philippe Garner.
