About the Item

A rare and highly collectible limited edition Gufram 'Cactus' coat / hat rack sculpture designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, part of the legendary Italian Radical Design and Pop Art movements. Ideal collectors example in both condition and rarity. Originally conceived in 1972, this edition was reissued in 1988 by Gufram as part of the Multipli ’86 limited edition series, produced in only 2000 numbered examples worldwide, this particular piece being No. 1257 / 2000. Playful, surreal, and instantly recognizable, the Cactus exemplifies the bold spirit of 1970s Italian design, merging humor and functionality in equal measure. Crafted from soft polyurethane foam and coated in Guflac®, Gufram’s proprietary flexible finish, its tactile green surface mimics cactus spines while remaining surprisingly soft to the touch. This duality of sculptural form and everyday function has made the Cactus one of the most iconic works of Postmodern and Memphis-era design. In near-perfect vintage condition, this example retains its vivid green coloration with only a few minor blemishes consistent with age and gentle display. The piece is marked on the underside with the original Gufram Multipli stamp and edition number. The Cactus has achieved international recognition as a design icon, housed in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, and the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Revered for its fusion of conceptual art and functional design, it stands as both a whimsical Pop Art sculpture and a practical coat rack, making it a show-stopping addition to any contemporary, modernist, or eclectic interior. A must-have for collectors of Italian Radical Design, Postmodern furniture, or art furniture, the Gufram Cactus remains a timeless symbol of avant-garde creativity, a perfect centerpiece for design galleries and luxury homes. MEASUREMENTS: H 66" x W 21.5" x D 25.5" CONDITION: Very good to excellent vintage condition with only a few minor blemishes. For its age, it was kept in a well-cared-for environment. Color is vivid and free of sun-fading, and is in near perfect form, the few minor blemishes are concentrated to the top where it is difficult to see for people of normal height. Contact us for more photos if you wish to see close up photos of the blemishes.
