We are delighted to offer for sale this rare Napoleon III era large sized bronze statue of a Little Cherub Angel signed Luca Madrasi (1848-1919) A very decorative and good sized piece, its rare to find a Cherub with a background setting in bronze, usually they are solo. The condition is exquisite, we have lightly cleaned, waxed and polished it from top to bottom. The cherubs smile is sublime, the little hand cornering the top of the rock is subtle, everywhere you look and touch on this piece just feels good. Dimensions: Height 29.5cm Width 25cm Depth 12cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Luca Madrassi ( 8 June 1848 in Tricesimo - 1919 in Paris ) is an artist sculptor French of Italian origin of the 19th century He began his artistic studies in Rome before studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris , where his teacher was Pierre-Jules Cavelier He then joins the Carrier-Belleuse studio, between 1876 and 1880 Madrassi was practitioner of Gustave Doré, this collaboration can explain the analogies between the works of Carrier-Belleuse and Golden He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris from 1879, he received several honourable mentions (1881,1882,1883 and 1885) and a third class medal in 1896 He obtained French nationality and became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1890 He also exhibited at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1896. His achievements are mainly busts, statuettes and allegorical subjects. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
