About the Item

Stunning Roman Nude Male Marble Sculpture Italian or statue of David. Well executed and wonderfully proportioned figure of David as a youth, copied from the original by Michelangelo at the Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence, Italy. The original sculpture was created between 1501 and 1504. This sculpture has been copied in every century since. Our example is from the Mid-20th Century. Finely detailed. The artist Lorenzo dal Torrione owned his studio in the Italian town of Pietrasanta near Pisa. Since 1952 dal Torrione has been active as a sculptor. Before that he studied with the famous Urbano Buratti. His artistic career began with the creation of clay models of sacred figures, and he also devoted himself to funeral art. Since 1966 he has been working in his own studio. From the 1970s he changed his sculptural subjects and since then has increasingly created statues in classicist style in alabaster, limestone and marble. Lorenzo Dal Torrione received further commissions from bronze foundries in Pietrasanta, for which he created models and moulds. In addition, there are various church orders from other European countries. The cooperation with the sculptor Sirio Navari also proved to be artistically very productive. (Research and text: Art historian Jens J. Reinke, M.A.) Measures: Depth 6.50 in. x Width 9.50 in. x Height 25 in.
