About the Item

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga – Polychrome Baroque Sculpture, 17th Century Magnificent polychrome carved wooden sculpture representing Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, one of the most venerated Jesuit saints. The figure, imbued with great serenity and contemplation, shows the saint in habit and cloak, in a praying posture, originally holding a crucifix. The work exhibits all the characteristic features of 17th-century Spanish Baroque sculpture: dynamic drapery, an introspective gaze, and delicate modeling of the facial features. The sculpture was acquired in a precarious state of conservation (documented with photographs) and has undergone a respectful professional restoration, in which the wood was consolidated, the original polychromy was recovered, and the losses were reversibly reintegrated, restoring the saint's original expressiveness. This process adds significant historical and aesthetic value to the piece. 41 cm high, 22 cm wide, 47 cm high with base
