About the Item

Sculptural 18th century Italian gilded corona, sunrays, figure of Christ, and angel adorned with baroque pearls mounted on selenite crystal. This piece is based on Revelation 22:1 which reads, “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” It was a featured piece exhibiting with Il Sacro Nell’Arte or “The Sacred in Art” in the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, March 2025. Il Sacro Nell’Arte is an exhibition that works to bring artists closer to the sacred through artistic depictions. This year, the theme centered around “water” in scripture. The exhibition was held from the 22nd to 30th of March 2025 in the Chiostro Grande of the Basilica della SS Annunziata, the main Marian sanctuary in Florence. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragments are originally 18th century. Together the artifact fragments and natural elements create a figurative, contemporary work of historic significance.
