About the Item

Surrealist sculpture has the suggestion of a turquoise cloaked hidden figure, Dutch 1980's is hand sculpted in ceramic. It is part glazed and Raku fired. A technique created by removing the object at the height of firing for rapid cooling. There are surprising tones of eggshell cracking of the irregular veins and black areas in the unglazed ceramic. The Raku firing technique is a unique form of pottery making, with its early origins in Japan during the 1580's. The craftsmanship and execution of this sculpture has references to mid century Japanese modern ceramic techniques.
