About the Item

CHOMO, Roger CHOMEAUX (1907-1999) Large bust of a Man. Sculpture in aerated concrete with a blue patina and striated surface. Painted blue, signed on the back. Height: 61 cm. It rests on a cubic base of white lacquered wood. Height: 16 cm; Width: 37 cm; Depth: 27 cm. Bibliography : Chomo, 1907 - 1999, Sous la direction d'Aymeric Rouillac, Lelivredart Ed. P.123 similar model. Roger Chomeaux, known as "Chomo," a multidisciplinary artist who has since passed away, dedicated his life to creation. His work, outside the traditional art world, primarily used a wide variety of found materials, which he collected from nearby landfills or the undergrowth. For most of his life, alone on a plot of land in the Fontainebleau forest, living an ascetic life in harsh conditions and extreme poverty, Chomo built what he called the "Village of Preludian Art," his own personal world. This microcosm consisted of a collection of buildings, including "The Church of the Poor," the "Sanctuary of Burnt Woods," and the "Refuge," structures designed to house his numerous sculptures and paintings. Reclusive in his own universe, Chomo remade the world in his own way, a parallel world where creation is omnipresent, fueled by invisible energies. “I am governed by cosmic forces,” he declared.
