Bring the warmth and enduring tradition of Provence into your home with this charming set of eight antique-style Provençal santons. Handcrafted in southern France circa 1970, each figure is modeled in fired clay, individually hand painted, and dressed in authentic regional fabrics featuring bright floral motifs, shawls, aprons, and character-specific accessories. These expressive figurines embody the spirit of the crèche provençale, a cherished folk tradition celebrating everyday rural life in Provence. The group represents classic village characters such as market women with baskets, milkmaids, village elders, and traveling shepherds. Each stands on a clay base, with several bearing artisan signatures including S. Peirano, J.-P. Maïkacchi, Claude Carbozel, and Paul, respected names associated with mid-century Provençal santon making. Sculpted facial expressions, finely modeled hands, and carefully sewn garments give each figure a distinct personality and reflect the skilled craftsmanship behind these collectible works of French folk art.
