About the Item

A sensational and palatially scaled set of four Italian Turn of the Century Terra Cotta statues of The Four Seasons. Each impressive statue is raised on its original square base with mottled edges and concave sides, below the display shelf with rounded corners. The intricately detailed statues above each depict a different season, with Winter being represented as a bearded man in a cloak. Spring, in the form of a young woman, is adorned with budding flowers symbolizing rebirth and nature's awakening. Summer stands proudly as a young man holding bunches of grapes and an overflowing cornucopia of fruit. Lastly, Autumn is shown with a pensive expression while gathering wheat during the final harvest before winter. Wonderful proportions, original patina and in excellent condition.
