About the Item
Fabulous pair of limited-edition, contemporary art Sicilian Moorheads of fine Sicilian workmanship.
The Moor heads are made entirely of lava stone: the male head is polished, while the female head is matted.
The Moor heads depict two heads of a man and a woman in typical Sicilian dress.
The man has a mustache and a stiffer crown characterized by hard lines, a fleshy mouth, and earrings. The neck is adorned with large seductive necklaces.
The woman, on the other hand, wears a more delicate and sinuous crown, reminiscent of a princess' tiara, which supports the veil that covers the woman's entire head. One ear is covered while the other sports a very impressive long earring, matching the necklace that encircles the woman's neck.
The story of the Moor Heads is an ancient and dramatic one concerning two lovers, in fact to this day Moor Heads are almost always reproduced in pairs. Both, who hold a crown and a turban on their heads reminiscent of the Orient, are richly adorned with jewels, flowers and citrus fruits. Their charm has also struck a chord with fashion designers Dolce
Gabbana, who made them the stars of a striking collection in 2014.
Moorheads are perfect decor elements to enrich and embellish areas of the home.

Angola Chokwe Mask Revisited by Bomber Bax
Located in Milano, IT
Beautiful classic Chokwe mask genre that honours female founding ancestors. Such representations are particularly significant as the Chokwe trace the descent through the lines of their mothers. This is thought to be a dance mask with a net and wood hairstyle, from the Batshokwe people skilled in the art of carving and of very ancient origin belonging to the culture of the divine monarchy.
The Batshokwe sculptors were the most famous in the region, masters in geometric decorations such as the depiction of scarifications and tooth deformations, the surfaces of their works were carefully smoothed and polished.
On the forehead of the mask, the classic chinge-lyengelye scarification is clearly visible, commonly interpreted as a variant of the Portuguese cross...
