About the Item

This contemporary sculpture was designed and handmade by the internationally recognized painter, sculptor, draftsman, and printmaker David Gerstein. Part of Gerstein's "Flowers" collection, this freestanding steel cut-out sculpture features nine sunflowers in a vase. Depending on which side is showing forward the the vase is either colored in blue or brown. While the flowers and vase are painted in the more traditional colors for this motive, the base is painted in vibrant blue which is typical for Gerstein's unique style. The sculpture is signed on the base. Known for his large-scale sculptures in public squares and plazas across the world, Gerstein's art was shown in museums around the world. His sculptures of bicycle riders were purchased by Lance Armstrong, and were mentioned in Stephen King's writings. His outdoor sculpture "Momentum" is Singapore's tallest public sculpture. Large Ceramic Studio Vase by Sgrafo Modern, Germany, 1960s, Mid-Century Modern
By Peter Müller, Sgrafo Modern
Located in Cork, IE
This round bodied ceramic vase had us intrigued from the very beginning! While hailing from Germany in the late 1960s early 1970s this handcrafted piece of studio pottery sets itself apart from the vast majority of West-German pottery through its elegant lines and shape. Set in different brown tones the first impression is almost as if it was a wooden vessel. The stylized tree motive is a discrete nod to the Chinese meiping vases...
