About the Item

This hand-crafted ceramic figurine was created by Mexican artist César Torres using traditional Talavera Poblana techniques in Puebla, Mexico. The piece depicts a folkloric female figure dressed in traditional attire, holding the skirt of her dress in a classic regional pose. This time Torres focuses on the tradition of the Day of the Dead depicting a catrina. The figurine is entirely hand-modeled and hand-painted, featuring intricate floral and geometric motifs in cobalt blue, yellow, green, terracotta, and black. The surface is finished with a glossy glaze characteristic of Talavera ceramics, enhancing both color depth and texture. The figure stands on a hand-painted circular base adorned with complementary decorative patterns. Talavera Poblana is a protected Mexican ceramic tradition known for its meticulous craftsmanship, mineral-based pigments, and historical roots dating back to the colonial period. Each piece is unique, with subtle variations that attest to its handmade nature. Material: Glazed Talavera ceramic Technique: Hand-modeled and hand-painted Origin: Puebla, Mexico Maker: César Torres Condition: Very good condition, with minor variations consistent with artisanal production A sculptural and decorative work that embodies the richness of Mexican folk art and the enduring legacy of Talavera craftsmanship.

Authentic Talavera Decorative Vase Folk Art Vessel Mexican Ceramic Blue White
Located in Queretaro, Queretaro
Elegant white and blue vessel made with the Talavera technique. Artist, Cesar Torres portraits the colonial art of Mexico. The Talavera is not just a simple painted ceramic: its exquisite decoration is the product of a delicate process of alchemy that translates into fine enamels. In Puebla, Mexico few people still produce using Talavera with the ancestral techniques. One of those few is Cesar Torres, Don Cesar learned his art in the workshop of the Uriarte family, an excellent workshop where his grandfather worked. In his creations he uses the black and white mud that is obtained from the nearby hills of Loreto and Guadalupe, and colors of mineral origin that he creates in his workshop with recipes from his grandfather. All the pieces are modeled in a traditional way and go through a production process that usually takes from one to two months, between drying, burning, and painting. Being surrounded by a living tradition, Cesar Torres Jr., learned from his father since childhood. Architect by profession, Cesar Jr. has come to revolutionize and modernize with new designs and ideas of the current world, nevertheless always respecting the tradition of the processes and materials that make Talavera a Creole art...

Mexican Dia De Los Muertos Day of the Dead La Catrina Folk Art Figure Sculpture
Located in Studio City, CA
A quite wonderful Mexican Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos festival held throughout Mexico) La Catrina symbolic skeleton figure. La Catrina is the festival’s most recognizable image/figure. She is the model of a high-society woman who has met Death, her maker. She represents something between the fear induced by her skeletal form and the revelry exhibited by the comical way she is typically portrayed, making her a perfect symbol of the Mexican holiday. She often appears in paintings, window displays, and costumes all around Mexico during the Day of the Dead festivities. La Catrina was originally conceived in the early 1900s by newspaper illustrator and printmaker José Guadalupe Posada...
