About the Item

A truly wonderful example of the work of Johann Maresch. Signed "JM" on the underside. Maresch was born in 1821, and so his works were done mainly in the 19th century. He worked in terra cotta, and his works were colorful and highly detailed. Just look at the young man's face, he is alive. There is a small chip under his cap which can easily be touched up, but we left it alone as it never bothered us. This comes from our own collection of terra cotta and 30+ years of owning it, it's time to let someone else enjoy it. Hard to part with, but we don't want to leave the kids with all this stuff to worry about.
